BanKo Perlas goes two for two so far in their PVL Open Conference campaign after downing PetroGazz Angels.
BanKo Perlas goes two for two so far in their PVL Open Conference run after downing the PetroGazz Angels in four sets, 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, Sunday evening at the Imus Sports Complex. The Perlas Spikers achieved this just a day after winning their opening match versus Iriga-Navy.
After dazzling in the first two sets, BanKo took the backseat in the third set allowing the Angels to take one frame.
"Nag-relax noong third set eh, akala nila in the bag na ‘yung laro eh. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, ‘wag kayong magrelax kasi lalaban at lalaban pa rin ‘yan ayun na nga nakuha nila (PetroGazz) ‘yung third set," head coach Dong Dela Cruz said.
Come the fourth set, although still lagging in the first few moments, the Perlas Spikers halted the letdown and eventually sealed the deal, 25-17, with a service ace.
Nicole Tiamzon scored the most in the match with 16 points all from kills while Amanda Villanueva and Dzi Gervacio scattered 15 and 14 points, respectively.
PetroGazz's Paneng Mercado poured in nine points while Jonah Sabete, Rachel Austero, Marites Pablo, Me-an Mendrez chipped in eight points each.
Banko Perlas will take on Ateneo-Motolite next on October 6. They will take a bit of rest from the PVL Conference action as they will fly to Vietnam on Wednesday for the Vin Lonh Tournament in Vietnam.
"Ang goal namin doon is to gain experience, titignan namin kung may kaya kaming talunin doon. Ang sa amin lang lalaban lang, hindi naman kami nage-expect," Dela Cruz shared.
On the other hand, the PetroGazz Angels at 1-1 will face Pocari Sweat-Air Force next on September 26.
