MALOLOS, Bulacan --- Tacloban bounced back from an opening day loss with a quick dismantling of Iriga-Navy, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19, Wednesday to barge in the win column of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center here.
The Fighting Warays were able to regroup after absorbing a straight sets loss to PetroGazz in their opener last Saturday for a 1-1 win-loss record.
Jovielyn Prado and Heather Guino-o led the way for Tacloban with 13 points each. The duo combined for 21 of the Fighting Warays’ 40 attacks while Prado and Guino-o also spearheaded their squad’s solid floor defense with 11 digs each.
“‘Yun nga medyo tumaas ulit ang morale ng mga players, naka-recover kami doon sa pangit naming pagkatalo kasi para kaming nagkakagulo sa first game naming,” said Tacloban head coach Nes Pamilar.
“Ngayon maka-adjust lang kami ulit, makakabalit ulit ang organized na game namin,” added Pamilar, whose squad will take on Akari-Adamson on Sunday.
The Fighting Warays schooled Lady Oragons the whole match, sparking rallies to pull away early and dictate the pace of the game.
Tacloban broke a 5-5 deadlock in the second set with a huge 10-1 scoring barrage. Iriga-Navy countered to close the gap, 15-11, but the Fighting Warays were quick to recover.
It was all Tacloban in the third.
Grazielle Bombita was the only Lady Oragon in double figure with 12 points as Iriga-Navy dropped to 0-2 slate.
