MALOLOS, Bulacan --- Pocari Sweat-Air Force needed five sets to carve out its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference.
Myla Pablo led the way as the Lady Warriors outlasted gritty PetroGazz in a bounce back, 25-20, 29-31, 25-15, 17-25, 15-5, win Wednesday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center here.
Pablo finished with 22 points with 19 coming off attacks for last year’s runner-up, which recovered from a sorry four-set loss to Ateneo de Manila University last Sunday. Pocari Sweat tied Tacloban at 1-1 win-loss card.
The Lady Warriors built a huge 9-1 lead in the fifth set to set the tone of the frame and eventually hand the Angels their second straight defeat in three outings.
"Siguro nag-mature na sila pagdating sa fifth set dahil alam ko namang kayang-kaya nila kaso breaks of the game," said Pocari Sweat coach Jasper Jimenez, who admitted that his squad looked physically and mentally exhausted for playing in the PVL and the ongoing AFP Olympics.
Jozza Cabalza pushed the Lady Warriors at match point, 14-3, off back-to-back aces before sending his service short in the next play. Pocari Sweat was flagged with a rotation error before May Ann Pantino sealed the win with an attack.
Jeanette Panaga finished with 11 points while Del Palomata and Pantino added 10 and nine markers, respectively, for the Lady Warriors.
Jonah Sabete was the lone PetroGazz player in double figures with 17 markers while Paneng Mercado and Marites Pablo, who faced sisted Myla for the first time after playing together with National University in the UAAP three years ago, combined for 14 points.
