Tacloban scored back-to-back wins after sweeping Adamson University in the PVL Season 2 Open Conference.
Tacloban continued with its rise after shooting down Adamson University-Akari, 25-21, 25-12, 25-22, Sunday for its second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jovielyn Prado delivered the goods for the Fighting Warays with 18 points off 15 attacks and three kill blocks while adding 10 digs. Tacloban improved to 2-1 win-loss record tied with Pocari Sweat-Air Force and gave the debuting Lady Falcons a rude welcome.
“‘Yung dalawang araw na pinractice namin medyo nakukuha na naman (ang systema) eh, ang sabi ko lang kailangan magtuluy-tuloy lang kasi marami kaming lapses noong nakaraan sa depensa talaga,” said Tacloban coach Nes Pamilar.
The Fighting Warays frustrated the Adamson spikers at the net as they scored 11 on kill blocks while pounding 41 attack points to punish the defense of the Lady Falcons.
“Unang-una kapag organized ang blocking namin nagkakaroon kami ng floor defense so medyo maganda ang blocking so kapag na touch namin nakasunod agad ang floor defense naming,” Pamilar said.
Heather Guino-o added 13 markers and Mary Anne Esguerra got 10 points for the Fighting Warays.
After dominating the first two sets, Tacloban got into trouble in the third with Adamson taking the helm, 21-19. The Fighting Warays answered with three straight points to take the lead.
Adamson tied it at 22 before Tacloban blasted a finishing 3-0 spurt capped by a Prado hit.
Chiara Permentilla was the only Adamson player in double digits with 11 points.
