Alyssa Valdez led Creamline in its first win after sweeping Tacloban in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference.
Creamline bounced back mightily after its opening game setback as the Cool Smashers swept Tacloban, 25-15, 25-21, 25-15, Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez spearheaded Creamline’s emphatic win to erase the biter memory of its five-set defeat at the hands of PetroGazz last Saturday in Imus, Cavite.
Valdez finished with 20 points coming of 15 attacks and five aces while adding 12 digs and six excellent receptions for the Cool Smashers.
"Nanalo kami but we were struggling din sa middle ng mga sets and we got to improve on that pa," said Valdez.
Risa Sato added nine while Jema Galanza and Michel Gumabao combined for 13 markers for Creamline, which sat out veteran libero Mel Gohing (throat infection) for the second straight game.
The Cool Smashers, who snapped the Fighting Warays’ two-game winning streak, controlled the opening frame but had to claw their way back from an early deficit in the second set.
Tacloban took an early four-point lead and held a 16-13 lead in the second frame before Valdez took matters on her own hands to turn the tables around. Valdez scored three of Creamline’s five straight points to take an 18-16 lead. The Cool Smashers pushed their advantage to 24-20 before wrapping up the set.
With momentum on their side, Creamline dominated the Fighting Warays to seal their first win in the season-ending tournament.
Tacloban dropped to 2-2 slate.
No Figthing Waray scored in double figures with Heather Guino-o and Jovielyn Prado finished with seven points each.
