Ateneo-Motolite won its second straight game in as many outings at the expense of PetroGazz.
Ateneo-Motolite displayed great grit and focus as the Lady Eagles outlasted PetroGazz, 25-21, 17-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-7, to remain unbeaten in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Katipunan-based squad clawed its way back from a 1-2 match deficit to capture its second win in as many outings.
Ateneo-Motolite, which came from a two-week break, sustained the momentum of its fourth set romp to build enough cushion early in the deciding frame on its way to snapping the Angels’ two-game winning streak.
"I give it to the players they just refused to lose. They want to prove something," said Ateneo-Motolite coach Oliver Almadro, whose wards will take on BanKo on Sunday in the last of their back-to-back weekend schedule.
Kat Tolentino waxed-hot especially in the fifth frame as she dropped 24 points highlighted by 20 attacks. The 6-foot-2 third year hitter had three kill blocks and an ace for a complete display of her scoring prowess for the Lady Eagles.
Maddie Madayag added 16 points on 13 kills and 13 kill blocks while rookie Vanessa Gandler scored 15 markers for Ateneo-Motolite, which rained down 57 spikes and frustrated the Angels at the net with 11 kill blocks.
PetroGazz slid to 3-3 win-loss record.
Jonah Sabete pumped in 13 points while Paneng Mercado and Cherry Nunag got 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Angels, who will close their first round elims campaign against Adamson-Akari on October 13.
