PetroGazz made quick work of Adamson-Akari to end the first round of eliminations on a high note.
PetroGazz added to the woes of hapless Adamson-Akari as the Angels closed their first round campaign with an emphatic 25-17, 25-20, 25-13, win Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Cai Baloaloa, Alyssa Layug and Cherry Nunag showed the way in PetroGazz’s fourth win in seven games.
Baloaloa finished with 14 points on 12 kills and a pair of kill blocks while Layug and Nunag added 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Angels, which had a rough first round schedule including five games in nine days.
“Happy (sa ending) and more practice. May mga games tayo na nasayang so try nating mabawi (sa second round),” said PetroGazz coach Jerry Yee of his assessment of their first round campaign.
Skipper Paneng Mercado posted nine points while Jonah Sabete registered with eight markers as the Angels handed the Lady Falcons their fifth defeat in as many games.
PetroGazz pounded 47 attacks and frustrated the Adamson-Akari hitters with eight kill blocks while landing five aces.
The Angels will return to action on November 3 but will miss the services of Maritess Pablo and Rachel Austero, who are set to join College of St. Benilde in the UniGames and the NCAA, for the rest of the tournament.
Bernadette Flora was the only Lady Falcon in double digit with 11 points while Ceasa Pinar and Chiara Permentila combined for only 13 markers.
