Kat Tolentino has been playing the role of leader and go-to-guy of Ateneo-Motolite in the PVL Season 2 Open Conference.
Ateneo-Motolite head coach Oliver Almadro has nothing but praises for Kat Tolentino.
He liked that the third year hitter is being up to the task of leading the Lady Eagles under his system.
“Kat has a new role this year,” said Almadro after Ateneo-Motolite’s 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12, win over Adamson-Akari in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“I know she’s not that hundred percent with that role pero she’s giving everything and I’ve never seen Kat play like this before,” added Almadro.
Tolentino has been performing consistently for the Lady Eagles, averaging 19.2 points per game.
Against the Lady Falcons, Tolentino displayed her scoring prowess and great composure under pressure after scoring six points in the deciding set including five of the Ateneo-Motolite’s first nine points.
She scored 28 points off 20 kills, five kill blocks and three aces but her all-around performance impressed Almadro the most.
“You can see her all around the floor, diving, blocking, moving and then asking for the ball and then, ‘o that’s my defense.’ she’s asking for it now,” he said. “I haven’t seen her like this before.”
Still, Tolentino knows that she has a lot more to learn and show for the Lady Eagles.
“But of course I’m still looking to gain more energy and have more spirit on the court,” she said.
“Siguro more ano pa kay Kat, more believing na ‘I am the girl so just give it to me I can make it,’” added Almadro.
