They’re everywhere --- Almadro on Adamson’s floor defense
I’ve been with the men’s team ganun din 'yung system ng men’s team nila talagang they’re relying on their floor defense, they’re relying on their persistency. And that’s what makes Adamson good -- Ateneo-Motolite coach Oliver Almadro on Adamson-Akari's floor defense

While Ateneo-Motolite head coach Oliver Almadro praised his wards for displaying patience and their heart strong mantra, the Lady Eagles mentor also commended Adamson-Akari’s superb floor defense.

Ateneo-Motolite escaped with their fourth win in five games Sunday in a 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12, escape in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference but not after facing a tough challenge from the Lady Falcons’ vaunted floor defense at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“I know coach Air (Padda), she’s my friend e, I know her system talagang they’re really persistent,” said Almadro, whose wards battled the Lady Falcons in long rallies.

Ateneo-Motolite even had to come back from early deficits in the second and third sets before taking the frames and had to hang tough in the closing stretch of the decider to escape Adamson-Akari’s upset ax.

“So sabi ko, ‘If you really want to win against Adamson, you have to be more persistent and more determined’. Ang laban kanina is tiyagain eh if sino yung unang susuko eh medyo mahuhuli,” he said.

Overall, the Lady Falcons had 124 excellent digs in 216 attempts and 42 excellent receptions out of 96 tries.

Thang Ponce, the Collegiate Conference Best Libero, tallied 46 digs and 21 excellent receptions while Bernadette Flora got 24 digs and eight receives on top of her 25 points for Adamson-Akari.

“I really commend the Adamson defense talagang they’re everywhere,” said Almadro. “Kailangan talagang if you want to win against Adamson you really have to be 110 percent fit, 110 percent power and strength.”

The former Blue Eagles mentor is no stranger with the San Marcelino-based squad’s pesky floor defense.

“I’ve been with the men’s team ganun din 'yung system ng men’s team nila talagang they’re relying on their floor defense, they’re relying on their persistency. And that’s what makes Adamson good,” said Almadro.

The Lady Eagles were able to counter that with patience and timely hits from reliable hitter Kat Tolentino especially in the deciding set. Adamson-Akari crumbled under pressure and it was also the untimely miscues of the Lady Falcons that did them in.
