Creamline went through the wringer before escaping with its fourth straight win.
Creamline came back from five points down, saved two match points before leaning on the heroics of setter Jia Morado on the service line in the decider to bring down Pocari Sweat-Air Force in a thrilling 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 16-25, 16-14, win Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Cool Smashers collected their fourth straight win for a 4-1 win-loss record tied with Ateneo-Motolite while snapping the Lady Warriors’ three-game winning run.
Alyssa Valdez led Creamline with 22 points, all from attacks, while adding 20 digs for the Creamline, which uncorked 62 attack points. Jia Morado tallied 44 excellent sets on top of eight points.
Risa Sato had 16 markers, Jema Galanza had 14 points while Fille Cainglet-Cayetano finished with personal conference-best 11 markers for the Cool Smashers.
Creamline clawed its way back from a 10-5 deficit in the fifth frame to knot the score at 10. The Cool Smashers again went behind, 14-12, after a Del Palomata quick attack.
Alyssa Valdez saved a match point on a hit before veteran playmaker Wendy Semana was called for a net touch that forced a deuce.
Morado took matters on her own hands at the service line as Creamline escaped with a squeaker.
“I think we know how veteran and how the Lady Warriors know each other so babalik at babalik talaga, ‘yung mga veterans hindi naman magpapatalo ‘yan basta-basta, said Valdez.
Jeanette Panaga and Palomata scored 19 each while Myla Pablo and Iari Yongco posted 13 and 11, respectively, for the Lady Warriors, who fell to 3-2 slate.
