Alyssa Valdez scored 20 points to lift Creamline to a share of the lead in a straight sets win over erstwhile unbeaten BanKo.
Creamline played sharp and aggressive and the BanKo Perlas Spikers just didn’t know what hit them.
Alyssa Valdez and the rest of the Cool Smashers dominated the Perlas Spikers for a quick 26-24, 25-13, 25-21, win Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
What was expected to be a shootout between two of the top title contenders turned out to be a one-sided affair with Creamline winning their fifth straight to tie their victim and Ateneo-Motolite at the top spot with 5-1 win-loss record.
“Even on our part din we didn’t expect that it would be this fast kasi usually kunwari BanKo, five sets,” said Valdez. “Minindset din namin before pa na kapag BanKo ang kalaban namin it would be a long game and I think sa kaka-mind set namin we give it our 100 percent.”
Valdez dropped 20 points built on 16 kills, three aces and a kill block for the Cool Smashers, who snapped the erstwhile unbeaten Perlas Spikers’ five-game winning streak.
Jema Galanza added 15 markers with 13 coming from attacks and added 14 excellent receptions while setter Jia Morado had 28 excellent sets for Creamline, which tallied 46 attacks. Risa Sato, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano and Risa Sato combined for 17 points for the Cool Smashers, who received 21 free points off BanKo's errors.
Creamline will close the first round of eliminations on Sunday against Ateneo-Motolite.
Kathy Bersola was the only Perlas Spiker in double figures with 12 points while Nicole Tiamzon and Suzanne Roces finished with nine markers each. Dzi Gervacio was limited to only five points, her first single digit performance in the conference after averaging 18 points per game in her first five outings, for BanKo.
