Iriga-Navy went through the wringer before notching its first-ever win in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference.
Grazielle Bombita connived with the Army duo of Nene Bautista and Joanne Bunag to power the Lady Oragons to a 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-11, win over Adamson-Akari to close their first round of eliminations on a high note Saturday at the FilOil Flyin V Centre in San Juan.
Bombita hammered down 18 kills to highlight her 21-point outing as Iriga-Navy barged in the win column for a 1-6 win-loss record. Bautista scored all but one of her 18 points from attacks while Bunag finished with 15 markers capped by a game-clinching hit.
Divine Eguia got 12 points while Hezzymie Acuna had 11 markers for the Lady Oragons. Shyrra Cabriana tallied 28 excellent sets in Iriga-Navy’s 66 attack points.
“Malaking tulong ang mga veterans namin kasi naging matibay ang pundasyon namin ‘di kagaya noong una na parang on and off,” said Iriga-Navy coach Edgardo Rusit. “Pero ngayon kapag matibay ang kasama mo sa loob medyo makaka-sure ka na lalaban ng todo talaga.”
The Lady Oragons trailed 8-9 in the fifth set before sparking a closing 7-2 scoring blitz to hand Adamson-Akari its seventh loss in as many outings.
Chiara Permentilla led the Lady Falcons with 21 points while Bernadette Flora had 16.
