BALIWAG, Bulacan --- Creamline made short work of an undermanned Ateneo-Motolite, 25-23, 25-17, 25-14, Sunday to extend its winning run to six straight and for the solo lead in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Baliwag Star Arena here.
Former Queen Eagle Alyssa Valdez led the Cool Smashers’ assault as Creamline took advantage of Ateneo-Motolite playing without starters Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino and Ponggay Gaston, who skipped the match for their community immersion as part of their academic requirement.
Valdez finished with 19 points, all from attacks, while Jema Galanza added 10 markers for Creamline, which landed 44 attack points with Jia Morado leading the offensive flow with 28 excellent sets. Morado scored eight points with five coming of aces.
The Cool Smashers ended the first round with a 6-1 win-loss slate and snapped the Lady Eagles’ three-game winning run.
Rookie Vanessa Gandler was the only player in double figures with 10 points for Ateneo-Motolite, which slid to 5-2 card at second spot tied with BanKo.
Samantha Fanger had nine markers while Jules Samonte, Bea De Leon and Erika Raagas finished with five each for the Lady Eagles, who faced Valdez and Morado for the first time since the former Ateneo stars graduated in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
