Bombita shows way for Lady Oragons despite limited minutes

BATANGAS CITY -- Stuck on the bench the day before, Grazielle Bombita made the most of her time inside the court when Iriga-Navy head coach Edgardo Rusit fielded her in the last two sets of the Lady Oragon’s match against Tacloban on Sunday.

Given the playing time, the Bicolana hitter delivered the crucial hits to power the Iriga-Navy past the Fighting Warays, 25-20, 15-25, 27-25, 25-23, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference for the Lady Oragons’ first back-to-back wins at the Batangas City Coliseum here.

The Camarines Sur native finished with 10 points off the bench just a day after riding the bench the whole match in Iriga-Navy’s sweep of Adamson-Akari Saturday in Imus, Cavite.

“Ina-analyze ko ‘yung laro ko nu’ng mga nakaraan, kailangan ko ma-minimize ‘yung errors ko kailangan ko magisip sa loob ng court kung paano ko papatayin yung bola,” said Bombita, who is averaging 10.33 points per game.

Bombita saw action in a relief role in the third set and immediately made an impact by scoring the Lady Oragons’ last three points in the frame. Down 25-24, Bombita exploded with three straight hits as Iriga-Navy stole the third frame.

Bombita pushed the Lady Oragons at match point 24-22 before committing an error in the next play as she sent her attack long. The Lady Oragon was quick to make amends by hitting the match-clinching down the line hit.

The win improved the Lady Oragons’ record to 3-7. Iriga-Navy won three of its last four outings.
