Iriga-Navy scored its first back-to-back wins in the PVL Season 2 Open Conference at the expense of Tacloban.
BATANGAS CITY --- Grazielle Bombita played clutch to tow Iriga-Navy to its first back-to-back wins in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference as the Lady Oragons prevailed over Tacloban, 25-20, 15-25, 27-25, 25-23, Sunday at the Batangas City Coliseum here.
The Bicolana bomber showed the way in the tight closing stretch of the third and fourth sets to star in Iriga-Navy’s third win in 10 games. Iriga-Navy won its second straight after sweeping Adamson-Akari Saturday in Imus, Cavite.
Bombita came off the bench and finished with 10 points on a relief role in the third set before starting in the fourth frame for the Lady Oragons. Nene Bautista and Joanne Bunag scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, with each hitting 11 kills for Iriga-Navy.
Bautista got 17 excellent receptions while Bunag added 19 digs for the Lady Oragons. Florence Madulid had 10 markers for Iriga-Navy.
“Medyo nakakasawa na ‘yung standing namin nu’ng first round lagi kaming nasa baba, laging talo ganun,” said Iriga-Navy coach Edgardo Rusit. “Kaya sabi ko start na para magtuloy-tuloy na kasi ang nangyayari ngayon nagsisimula kami sa mababa, pataas. Baka sakaling makuha namin hanggang dulo.”
Bombita scored three straight points in the third frame to help the Lady Oragons save a set point before eventually stealing the set. The veteran hitter again showed composure down the stretch, pushing Iriga-Navy at match point before making amends on her spike that went long in the next play with a down the line kill to finish off the Fighting Warays.
Tacloban saw its two-game winning streak snapped and slid to 4-5 win-loss card tied with Pocari Sweat-Air Force.
Dimdim Pacres tallied 18 points while Jovielyn Prado and Anne Esguerra posted 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for the Fighting Warays.
