PVL: Very matapang, very brave – Valdez on Gandler
Very matapang, very brave talaga yung bata and I think more than everything you have to have that character inside you para ma-perform and ma-apply mo lahat ng ginagawa mo sa training sa laro kasi that’s important e -- Alyssa Valdez on Ateneo-Motolite rookie Vanessa Gandler

BATANGAS CITY --- Ateneo-Motolite rookie Vanessa Gandler earned the respect of Creamline star and former Queen Eagle Alyssa Valdez.

The three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player had nothing but praises for the De La Salle-Zobel recruit after the freshman introduced herself to Valdez by scoring a huge kill block.

Gandler’s great timing on Valdez’s power smash sealed the Lady Eagles’ 25-18, 25-20, 15-25, 23-25, 15-12 victory over the Cool Smashers Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Batangas City Coliseum here.

“Maganda yung ano ni Gandler. Sa skills kanina even sa receives nagwo-work siya. palo niya okay,” said Valdez, who poured 32 points – all off kills – in a lost cause.

But what impressed Valdez the most was Gandler’s moxie.

“Very matapang, very brave talaga yung bata and I think more than everything you have to have that character inside you para ma-perform and ma-apply mo lahat ng ginagawa mo sa training sa laro kasi that’s important e,” said the Cool Smashers star.

Kat Tolentino broke a 12-12 tie in the fifth frame with a strong smash before Valdez committed a crucial attack error by putting too much power on her attack.

Gandler then introduced herself to Valdez with a solid kill block on her to seal the win.

“I just stuck to what my coach and teammates told me that to get down the line so I followed what they told me,” said Gandler, who scored six points.

“It feels good but of course, it wasn’t me that got the win, it’s my whole team. I wouldn’t have done that without them,” she added.

Valdez pointed out that Gandler’s toughness and confidence will bring her to greater heights in the future.

“Kahit magaling sa training kung not brave enough to show it sa game kung matanda yung kalaban mo siyempre may ganung factor din pero itong batang to kahit sino kalaban consistent talaga yung game from the very first game niya yan talaga pinapakita niya,” said Valdez.

The victory put Ateneo-Motolite at solo top spot with a 7-2 win-loss record while the Cool Smashers saw their six-game winning streak snapped and fell to second spot tied with BanKo with 6-2 mark.
