PVL: Ateneo-Motolite turns back Tacloban to stay in first
Ateneo-Motolite continues their winning ways

Ateneo-Motolite recovered from a third set meltdown and foiled the Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, in Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Saturday.

Riding on the momentum of their fantastic win over powerhouse Creamline last week, the Lady Eagles continued their winning ways as they picked up their eighth win in ten outings to remain on top of the standings.

With their defense being impeccable, the Lady Eagles were well in control of the match in the first two sets.

However, in the middle of the third frame, a series of miscommunication from the Lady Eagles ensued. Tacloban took advantage and snatched the set.

"We are still learning. Tacloban is teaching us how to be resilient. Players tend to be excited, waiting for just the final point," shared Ateneo-Motolite head coach Oliver Almadro.

Ateneo entered the fourth set with momentum not on their side. They trailed by as much as four points, 14-10.

Sparked by Jules Samonte, Ateneo caught up and eventually pulled away. Kat Tolentino and Bea de Leon's double block on Tacloban hitter Dimdim Pacres sealed the match, 25-19.

"I love Jules today. She stepped up to the challenge. Nung unang ginamit ko siya, wala. Pagbalik niya, she accepeted the challenge. I challenged her na it's about time. When the opportunity comes, she has to be ready and Jules proved that she is always ready," Almadro said as he singled out Samonte who produced eight points and was primarily responsible for turning the tide in the fourth.

Maddie Madayag led Ateneo-Motolite in scoring with 14 points while De Leon added 13.

Heather Guino-o and Dimdim Pacres scored16 points and 13 points, respectively for Tacloban, which dropped to a 4-6 record.

Ateneo-Motolite will take on Iriga-Navy next on November 4 while Tacloban will face the Creamline Cool Smashers on November 7.
