Ateneo-Motolite moved a win away from formalizing its entry in the Final Four.
Ateneo-Motolite added Iriga-Navy to its list of victims in a dominating 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, win on Sunday to secure at least a playoff for a semifinals berth in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles extended its winning streak to four straight and completed a sweep of their back-to-back weekend schedule to strengthen their grip of the solo top spot with a 9-2 win-loss record. Another win by Ateneo-Motolite will land them a spot in the best-of-three semis.
"First of all hindi namin in-expect na aabot kami sa Final Four. When we joined this tournament we want experience. I want them to learn the new system that I’m teaching them, hindi ganoon kadali kasi ilang months pa lang ako sa kanila," said Ateneo-Motolite coach Oliver Almadro.
"Siguro what I’m giving them is yung attitude na muna towards the game and towards trusting each other and trusting the system," he added.
Rookie Vanessa Gandler finished with 12 points anchored on 10 attacks and two aces while skipper Bea De Leon and Maddie Madayag added nine and eight points, repectively, for the Lady Eagles, who also swept the Lady Oragons in their first meeting.
Ateneo-Motolite took advantage of Iriga-Navy's spotty reception to land eight aces while De Leon wreaked havoc at the net with four of the Lady Eagles' eight kill blocks.
The Lady Oragons absorbed their ninth loss in 12 outings.
Nene Bautista and Grazielle Bombita scored 11 each for Iriga-Navy, which dropped its second straighyt match. Joanne Bunag added eight.
