Siguro kailangan lang ng strengthening and rest. Tomorrow back to regular programming do strengthening. Nothing to worry about -- Alyssa Valdez
Creamline star Alyssa Valdez assured her teammates and fans that she’s doing fine despite playing through pain on her right ankle in the Cool Smashers’ straight sets win over Tacloban in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference.
“Siguro kailangan lang ng strengthening and rest. Tomorrow back to regular programming do strengthening. Nothing to worry about,” said Valdez, who led the Cool Smashers to a 25-16, 25-16, 26-24, win over the Fighting Warays Wednesday that hiked their record to 7-2 tied with idle BanKo at second spot.
Valdez limped out of the court in the second set and had her right foot bandaged. The Cool Smasher felt some pain after a bad landing in the opening set.
She said that she has been nursing the nagging injury for quite some time.
“Hindi ko rin alam sa paa ko pasulpot-sulpot (yung sakit). It’s been going on, matagal na rin. I think matagal na ito talaga,” admitted Valdez, who also had 11 digs.
“As much as possible we do a lot of therapy. I mean ginagawan naman ng paraan during trainings but I guess today gusto lang niyang sumulpot. Na-timingan lang siguro,” she added. “Bad landing lang sa first set kaya medyo sumakit din.”
Seeing her team trailing in the third set, 10-15, Valdez ignored pain and returned to action. She immediately scored an attack to rally her team to an amazing fightback.
Valdez then pounded two straight kills to push her team closer, 22-23. Jovielyn Prado answered with a kill to put the Fighting Warays at match point before Alina Bicar sent her service short that tied the frame at 24.
Valdez again smashed consecutive attacks before Jia Morado wrapped up the win with an ace to end the one-hour, 22-minute match.
“Very crucial din talaga ang ibinibigay ng mga PTs namin, ng mga coaches namin kapag may mga ganitong instances and I’m just very thankful for them,” said Valdez. “Si coach din kapag tumingin na yun alam mo na heartstrong na, kung kaya naman lumaban lalaban ka for the team.”
Creamline will take on Pocari Sweat-Air Force next on Sunday in Legazpi City, Albay.
