PetroGazz arrested a two-game slump with a rousing straight sets win over BanKo.
PetroGazz bounced back mightily from a two-game slump with an emphatic, 25-11, 25-23, 25-18, win over Banko to fuel its Final Four hopes in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Angels improved to 6-5 win-loss record to fortify its hold of the fourth spot and recovered from their sorry five-set loss to Tacloban the night before in Malolos, Bulacan.
Cherry Nunag had 12 points while Cai Baloaloa finished with 11 for the Angels, who received 32 free points from BanKo's errors and punished the reception of the Perlas Spikers with seven aces.
“Sobrang gustong manalo. ‘Yun ang conclusion namin finally kumbaga nag-usap kami siyempre mahabang usapan ‘yan sobrang gustong manalo,” said PetroGazz coach Jerry Yee. “‘Pagka ganyang crucial na sobrang gigil, simple ang mistakes and eventually nag-slip away. So kanina tinary nating i-workout o baka pagod din ang Perlas ngayon so good for us. Kailangan namin ang mga wins na ganito.”
The Angels buckled down to business early, burying the Perlas Spikers to a 21-7 hole in the opening set to dictate the tempo of the match. BanKo played sluggish and out of sync compared to their fine form the night before in its straight sets win over Ateneo-Motolite.
The Perlas Spikers slid to 8-3 mark.
Dzi Gervacio was the only BanKo player in double figures with 12 points while Joy Dacoron and Suzanne Roces combined for 14.
