Creamline dealt Pocari-Air Force another five-set heartbreaker, carving out a 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9 victory to take a step closer to the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City, Albay Sunday.
Alyssa Valdez and Jessica Galanza combined for 37 hits while Michelle Gumabao and Risa Sato backed them up with 16 and 13 markers, respectively, as the Cool Smashers moved at second spot.
The setback was the sixth for the Lady Warriors, whose own semis bid hit a snag after dropping their fourth five-set loss in the last seven games for a 5-6 card, one and a half game behind the fourth-running PetroGazz Angels (6-5).
Myla Pablo put in a game-high 22 points while Del Palomata and Jeanette Panaga combined for 28 points for the Lady Warriors, who got clobbered in attacks, 53-64, but made up for the slack with solid net defense, coming through with 13 blocks, 10 more than their fancied rivals.
But the Cool Smashers cashed in on the Lady Warriors’ poor service reception, scoring 14 aces against their rivals’ six.
