BanKo advanced to the Final Four after crushing Pocari Sweat-Air Force in four sets.
BanKo bucked a sluggish start to claim a spot in the Final Four at the expense of sputtering Pocari Sweat-Air Force, 27-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Amanda Villanueva showed the way, playing as replacement for injured Nicole Tiamzon, for the Perlas Spikers, who joined semis-bound Ateneo-Motolite in the next round with a 9-3 win-loss record.
Villanueva hammered 17 attacks with three aces and a pair of kill blocks for 22 points while adding 15 excellent receptions in an all-around game effort for BanKo’s bounce back win from a disappointing straight sets loss to PetroGazz last Sunday. Tiamzon skipped action because of a finger injury.
The Perlas Spikers showed rust in the first two sets and even trailed 8-15 in the second set before getting their bearing back in the third. BanKo took control of the fourth set early before staving off the comeback attempt of the Lady Warriors late in the frame to escape with the win.
“I give credit to the girls. Gusto nilang pumasok na sa semis, officially kasi nasa semis na kami ngayon. Siguro gusto na talaga nilang manalo para hindi na (komplikado),” said BanKo head coach Dong Dela Cruz.
The Perlas Spikers sent Pocari Sweat reeling to its second straight defeat for a 5-7 card tied with Tacloban. The Lady Warriors are now on the brink of missing the semis for the first time since the league’s inaugural season.
Skipper Myla Pablo worked hard for 23 points – all from kills – with 13 digs and 11 excellent receptions in a lost cause for Pocari Sweat.
Jeanette Panaga finished with 11 while Del Palomata had 10 markers for the Lady Warriors.
