(We have to) start things strong in the semifinals -- Alyssa Valdez
BATANGAS CITY -- Creamline snatched the top seed in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference after a good run in the two-round eliminations.
Pitted against no. 4 seed and very dangerous PetroGazz in the best-of-three semifinals, top hitter Alyssa Valdez stressed the importance of a strong start in their duel.
The Cool Smashers and Angels split their elims head-to-head with PetroGazz pulling a five-set upset over the debuting Creamline in their first meeting before Valdez and crew scored a dominating straight sets payback in their rematch.
“We have to be confident kasi I think that’s one of the keys,” said Valdez, who had 19 markers Saturday in the Cool Smashers’ 25-7, 25-11, 25-10, drubbing of Adamson-Akari at the Batangas City Coliseum here.
The Cool Smashers ended the elims with an 11-3 win-loss record tied with BanKo, who will take on Ateneo-Motolite in the semis, but Creamline landed the no. 1 seed by virtue of a higher tiebreak.
“(We have to) start things strong in the semifinals kasi out of the four teams, we fought against each other, we lost against one another so I think it’s really the confidence that we built buong tournament, yun ang talagang dadalhin namin,” Valdez said.
Creamline hopes to ride the crest of their second straight win as fuel for their back-to-back title bid after winning it all in the Reinforced Conference.
“I think ito (game) yung confidence-booster namin going into the semis,” said Valdez. “Nakita din namin na pwedeng ipasok talaga ang iba naming mga teammates para makatulong din pagdating emergency lalo na sa semifinals kasi we wouldn’t know what will happen.”
