PVL: Cool Smashers make return trip to the Finals
Creamline advanced to the best-of-three Finals of the PVL Season 2 Open Conference after disposing PetroGazz in the Final Four.

Alyssa Valdez led four other players in double figures as Creamline finished off PetroGazz, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-13, Saturday to advance in the Finals of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Valdez scored 14 points and added 13 digs to spearhead the Cool Smashers’ series sweep of the Angels as Creamline clinched its second straight championship stint after winning it all in the Reinforced Conference.

The Cool Smashers will take on the survivor between Ateneo-Motolite and Banko, which will play in a do-or-die match Sunday.

Game 1 of the Finals is on Wednesday.

“I think we’re really thankful and blessed na nakaabot kami sa dulo,” said Valdez, a frontrunner in the MVP race.

“Napansin namin this game it’s really hard to close out a game, mas mahirap siya (than) getting Game One, kasi kasi we all know the pressure na kapag nanalo kami dito kailangan namin mag-Finals so nanggigigil kami,” she added. “Very tensed kami kaya medyo ‘yung game namin masyadong pigil ‘cause we really wanted to put out a good game but we were able to turn it around.”

The Cool Smashers recovered from a rusty start to cruise to its third straight win against the Angels in their conference head-to-head.

Valdez had plenty of help on offense with Michele Gumabao, Jema Galanza and Paul Soriano tallying 12 markers each while Risa Sato delivered 11 markers for Creamline.

“Ang sarap lang sa feeling na bumalik sa finals kahit anong conference pa ‘yan I think every team’s goal is to be in the finals, na-achieve na namin ‘yun so on to the next naman (the championship),” said Valdez.

The Angels were relegated in the battle for third against the loser in the other semis pairing. Jonah Sabete scored 13 points with all but one coming off attacks while Cai Baloaloa had 11 markers.
