PVL: Perlas Spikers ready to complete sweep
BanKo looks for the Finals seat clincher on Saturday.

BanKo braces for a tough fightback from Ateneo-Motolite Saturday in Game 2 of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference best-of-three semifinals at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Although the Perlas Spikers have dominated the Lady Eagles in their three meetings in the season-ending conference including a five-set victory in the series opener, BanKo expects a different Ateneo-Motolite team as it tries to keep its Finals hopes alive in their 2:00 p.m. encounter.

The match will air live on LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.

BanKo relied on its veterans Dzi Gervacio, Sue Roces, Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon in the deciding frame Wednesday to eke out a 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 19-25, 15-6, win and move a step closer to a breakthrough championship stint.

“Its about time siguro na pumasok ang team sa Finals kasi ilang taon na rin na yun ang gusto ng management pero di nagagawa in the past conferences,” said Perlas Spikers coach Dong Dela Cruz, whose squad finished third in the Reinforced Conference. “Siguro konting swerte pa baka pumasok na kami sa Finals ngayon na di nagawa dati. Hopefully magawa na namin by Saturday.”

But the Lady Eagles, who got swept by BanKo twice in the elims, won’t surrender that easily.

“I’m sure my players will bounce back, we have to learn resiliency and kailangan talaga namin makabalik for learning also yun naman ang pinakaimportante dito,” said Ateneo-Motolite mentor Oliver Almadro.

Game 3, if needed, is on Sunday.
