PVL: We’re only just as good as our last game -- Almadro
One game will not test the character (of the team) but this will just make us stronger and better -- Oliver Almadro

Ateneo-Motolite methodically dismantled the only team that dealt them three straight losses in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference.

The win came in a very crucial match for the Lady Eagles, with their backs against the wall in the best-of-three semifinals series.

It was a morale-boosting win for the young Ateneo-Motolite squad, but head coach Oliver Almadro knows that there’s more work to be done.

“This (win) will not test our character. We’re only just as good as our last game,” said Almadro after the Lady Eagles’ 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, Game 2 win Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan. “’Yun lang talaga binigyan kami ng opportunity at chance ni Lord to better ourselves pa tomorrow and ipakita pa kung ano ang kaya namin.”

The Katipunan-based squad came in the game extra motivated after they took their first set wins over the Perlas Spikers in a five-set defeat in the series opener.

The Lady Eagles played aggressively and maintained their intensity throughout the match. They showed composure down the stretch in the third set staving off BanKo’s comeback attempt.

The two squads will return Sunday for the winner-take-all match for a spot in the best-of-three Finals.

But for Almadro, what’s important is the valuable lessons his wards will learn from series. Completing a possible series comeback will be just a bonus.

“No matter what saan man kami mapunta rito, the learning is the most important thing. Yung experience and unity ng team ang pinakaimportante rito,” he said. “But one game will not test the character (of the team) but this will just make us stronger and better.”

“Game 3, same thing. We will just be brave in everything we do, we will just be courageous in everything we do,” Almadro added. “No matter what, beterano sila, experienced sila. Yung mga pamalit nila beterano pa rin. Sabi ko sa mga players ko they just have to be enthusiastic all the time, keep on learning para magawa namin ang gusto namin.”
