BanKo swept PetroGazz to claim the PVL Season 2 Open Conference bronze medal
BATANGAS CITY --- BanKo banked on the veteran trio of Dzi Gervacio and middle blockers Joy Dacoron and Kathy Bersola Saturday to formally claim the bronze medal in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Batangas City Coliseum here.
Gervacio unleashed 11 attacks in her 16-point output to lead the Perlas Spikers to a cakewalk, 25-18, 26-24, 25-21, win over PetroGazz to complete a sweep of the best-of-three battle for third series.
The former Ateneo de Manila University star, who had seven excellent receptions, was backed by Conference 2nd Best Blocker Bersola and Dacoron.
Dacoron finished with 15 points built on eight attacks, four kill blocks and three aces for the Perlas Spikers, who duplicated their podium finish in the Reinforced Conference months back.
“Deserve namin 'tong bronze gawa nga noong standing namin,” said BanKo head coach Dong Dela Cruz, whose squad finished second in the elimination round but fell short of making it in the Finals after bowing down to Ateneo-Motolite.
“Siguro, 'yung frustration namin na hindi nakapasok ng Finals, nagamit namin as motivation dito. Magandang bawi. Although very frustrating and heartbreaking 'yung nangyari sa amin nitong conference, hindi pa naman doon natatapos 'yun. May pinaglaban kaming bronze. Very proud ako sa team kasi tinalo naman lahat ng teams,” he added.
The Angels, who suffered a 14-25, 26-28, 25-10, 19-25 loss in Game 1, finished its campaign at fourth spot.
Cherry Nunag had 10 points, Jonah Sabete had nine while Paneng Mercado and Cai Baloaloa posted eight each for the PetroGazz.
