Creamline's Jema Galanza powered Team Red in a straight sets win over Team B.
Jema Galanza delivered the goods while Dimdim Pacres provided the fun and entertainment as Team Red swept past Team Blue, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League All-Star Game at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Creamline open hitter hammered 11 kills in her 14-point outing to power the Oliver Almadro-mentored squad. Jonah Sabete of PetroGazz added 11 markers, 13 digs and seven excellent receptions for Team Red in the event organized as a kickoff for the league’s third season and for the benefit of Hero Foundation.
But it was Pacres of Tacloban who stole the show with her antics inside the court. The opposite hitter scored seven points including the match-clinching hit.
The University of Sto. Tomas standout also busted her killer dance moves after the match as the DJ blasted the ‘Switch it up’ song to the delight of the capacity crowd the trooped the venue to watch their favorite PVL stars.
“We’re so blessed, I’m so blessed na ang mga players ko they delivered well. Sa huddle pa lang kanina sinabi ko na, ‘we will enjoy but keep the focus and give the quality game to the fans.’ Kasi mahirap naman na petiks but they enjoyed,” said Almadro.
“Naging revelation sa amin si Dimdim. Maganda ang laro and nagi-enjoy. Masarap kasi na may ganyan ka sa team like Pacres saka si Cherry Rose Nunag na talagang nawawala yung pressure kasi para silang laruan sa loob ng court and doon sa team so ang saya,” he added. “And then ang ganda pa ng nilaro ni Jia (Morado), ni Jema, ni Jonah, ni Jem (Ferrer) din, si Myla (Pablo) consistent.”
Creamline star Alyssa Valdez finished with 10 points to lead Team Blue of head coach Jerry Yee. Kathy Bersola of Banko scored seven points while Grazielle Bombita of Iriga-Navy had six.
Ateneo de Manila University players Bea De Leon, Kat Tolentino and Vannie Gandler of Team Red skipped the match but participated in meet-and-greet so did Deanna Wong and Dani Ravena of Team Blue. Maddie Madayag also of Team Blue skipped the event to focus on her thesis.
The Lady Eagles were advised by team management to sit out the event with just two week before the start of UAAP Season 81.
Isa Molde of University of the Philippines also begged off to rest her minor shoulder injury.
