PVL: It feels good to be back on court -- Johnson
I had two weeks break and I miss playing. Now that I’m back here it feels good to be back on the court -- PetroGazz import Janisa Johnson

Janisa Johnson couldn’t wait to step on the court and get back into action in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.

The prolific scorer is one of the few foreign players who are given a chance to return for another run in the import-laden tournament. Johnson will don the PetroGazz jersey this time after playing for BaliPure last year.

“I had two weeks break and I miss playing. Now that I’m back here it feels good to be back on the court,” said Johnson, who came from a stint in France.

Johnson is expected to bring added firepower to the Angels, who are looking to step on the podium after a fourth place finish in the season-ending Open Conference. PetroGazz finished fifth in the Reinforced Conference.

Johnson also welcomes a new environment where she can play with seasoned teammates compared to her former team, which was composed of high school and college standouts from National University.

“With this team I’m with girls that are more my age therefore like I’m not so much as a high role model. Here I’m like ‘Hey, I’m part of the team.’ Everyone’s my age, we get each other,” said Johnson.

The American will team up with Wilma Salas, a member of the Cuban national team who is making her debut in the league.

Expectations are high for the Angels, who are considered as one of the top contenders in the six-team field, especially with Johnson, who averaged 20.4 points per game and led last year’s conference with a 56.38% efficiency in reception, at the helm.

“There’s always pressure when you’re an import and you’re the new person but for me, yeah, there’s always pressure but I don’t let it get into me,” said Johnson. “I try to give my effort and push the team whatever way I can.”

And playing against defending champion Creamline on Sunday will be good test for the Angels.

“I’m excited, it’s our first game. We play a really good team and I’m just gonna give my all and have fun,” said Johnson.
