PVL: Water Defenders, Lady Troopers clash in season opener
PacificTown Army debuts on Sunday against BaliPure.

Returning BaliPure takes on newcomer but veteran-laden PacificTown Army on Sunday as the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference opens shop on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Game time is set at 2:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.

The Water Defenders make their return in the league after skipping last year’s Open Conference.

BaliPure will field a new team composed of up-and-coming volleyball names – all eager to showcase their talents on the court. Rommel Abella, who steered Pocari Sweat to the inaugural Reinforced Conference crown, will serve as head coach.

Leading the Water Defenders, who won the 2017 Open Conference crown and was represented by National University high school and college stars in last year’s import-laden edition, is former Iriga star Grazielle Bombita. Helping Bombita are first-time imports Danijela Dzakovic from Montenegro and Slovakian Alexandra Vajdova.

Other local stars looking to prove their mettle in the league are Menchie Tubiera, setter Necelle Gual of Perpetual Help, Jewelle Bermillo of San Sebastian College, Sandy Delos Santos, Satrianni Espiritu of San Beda College, Carrie Pronuevo, Miracle Mendoza, Patria Pena and Kat Racelis of Mapua University.

The Water Defenders will face a Lady Troopers side bannered by powerhitter and former national team member Jovelyn Gonzaga, who is seeing action for the first time in one and half years after recovering from a knee injury.

PacificTown Army will parade seasoned stars Ging Balse-Pabayo, Nene Bautista, Royse Tubino, Dahlia Cruz, Tin Agno, Angela Nunag, Lutgarda Malaluan, Jeannie Delos Reyes, Jem Gutierrez and Sarah Jane Gonzales with Kungfu Reyes as head coach.

Young setter Alina Bicar of University of Sto. Tomas will join the crew with reinforcements Ukrainian Lena Lymareva, who played for PetroGazz last year, and American Jenelle Jordan.

Kungfu Reyes will call the shot for the Lady Troopers.
