PVL: Lady Troopers spoil Motolite's debut
PacificTown Army beat debuting Motolite in four sets to get back in the win column.

PacificTown Army returned in the win column after giving newcomer Motolite a rude welcome, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Troopers weathered Motolite’s late fourth set rally to seal their second victory in three games.

Royse Tubino finished with 18 points off 16 attacks, an ace and a kill block with 15 digs for an all-around game for PacificTown Army. Ukrainian import Lena Lymareva-Flink led the Lady Troopers with 25 points built on 22 attacks and three aces with 12 excellent receptioons while American reinforcement Jenelle Jordan posted nine markers.    

“Magandang turning point tong panalo namin so maganda start nag2-1 agad kami,” said Pacifictown Army coach Kungfu Reyes. “Natuto kami nung Game 2 namin against kasi we have more errors sa creamline. Sa dami ng tapon ngayon nag siguro kami sa service namin.”

PacificTown Army pushed at match point, 24-17, but Motolite charged back, saving four match points before Lymareva-Flink finished off their opponents with a hit.

The Lady Troopers chipped off Motolite's 21-16  lead in the third frame to 23-22 after a mounting a 6-2 counterattack. Tubino committed a service error on the next play but Lymareva-Flink saved a set point off a crosscourt kill before Bosnian import Edina Selimovic blocked Jordan as Motolite prevented a shutout.

Motolite, which sat out top hitter Myla Pablo due to a strained back muscle, will play league-leading PetroGazz on Sunday.

Channon Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago posted 22 points off 18 spikes, two aces and two kill blocks with 10 digs for Motolite, which gave away 37 points off their miscues.

Selimovic had 15 markers while Eli Soyud added 10 for Motolite.
