PVL: Water Defenders, Perlas Spikers eye first win
BaliPure will try to regroup and barge into the win column against BanKo.

BaliPure and BanKo look to bounce back from their respective opening day setbacks on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Game time is at 2:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.

The Water Defenders suffered a rude welcome in their return to the league after skipping last season’s Open Conference after absorbing a 20-25, 16-25, 26-24, 23-25, at the hands of newcomer PacificTown Army last Sunday.

BaliPure played in their debut sans Danijela Dzakovic due to technicalities on her international transfer certificate but the Montenegrin is expected to suit up this time.

Water Defenders mentor Rommel Abella, who steered Pocari Sweat to the throne in the inaugural edition of the import-laden conference, has high hopes that his team will play better this time based on their first game. But the coach also stresses the importance of controlling their errors unlike last game when they committed 40 miscues.

“I like the fight doon sa team namin kasi hanggang sa dulo hindi naman sila nagbigay, errors lang talaga ang nagdiin sa team namin,” said Abella referring to their opening game. “Gusto ko ang fight sa team namin na kahit bata lumalaban.”

Slovakian import Alexandra Vajdova, who scored 20 markers last game, will again lead the Water Defenders with local support from Grazielle Bombita, Menchie Tubiera, Satrianni Espiritu and setter Vira Guillema.

Meanwhile, the Perlas Spikers were outclassed by league-leading PetroGazz, 19-25, 21-25, 12-25, last Wednesday.

American import Kia Bright and Turkish reinforcement Yasemin Yildirim need to play better than their first game where they combined for only 15 points with Nicole Tiamzon as the lone local player in double figures with 11.
