PVL: Motolite taps new reinforcement
Motolite will field a new reinforcement in Krystle Esdelle as replacement for injured Bosnian middle Edina Selimovic.

Newcomer Motolite tapped Krystle Esdelle as replacement to injured Bosnian import Edina Selimovic in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.

The guest player from Trinidad and Tobago arrived Wednesday morning just in time for Motolite’s showdown with BanKo at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“She just arrived in the morning. She played in Turkey,” said Motolite assistant coach Godfrey Okumu.

Esdelle, who got a little time of practice hours before the opening serve, will play alongside compatriot and co-national team member Channon Thompson.

Motolite has been a victim of the injury bug in their maiden season with Selimovic, who in 2017 saw only two games for eventual champion Pocari Sweat after suffering a hamstring injury that abruptly ended her stint, as its latest victim.

The middle was diagnosed with a bruised knee cap and was first reported to be out for at least a week. MRI results on the import’s knee showed that Selimovic bruised a kneecap that caused muscle spasms.

She hurt her knee in the fourth set of Motolite’s four-set loss to PacificTown Army in their debut last Saturday.

“Our player [Edina Selimovic] got injured and the doctor gave her seven days to recover,” said Okumu. “Seven days is already the end of the first round. Last match on sunday, if she was there, we have a chance of winning that game. We can't lose five games already. Five games is the end of the first round.”

Motolite before the start of the conference was supposed to field Cuban import Gygy Silva but the reinforcement strained a shoulder muscle and was replaced by Channon Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago.

Prized hitter Myla Pablo has yet to see action because of a sore back.

Motolite will wrap the first round against BanKo on Wednesday before another back-to-back weekend grind with defending champion Creamline and BaliPure.
