I’ll go for more. That’s for sure -- PetroGazz import Wilma Salas of Cuba after scoring a career-best 37 points
Cuban import Wilma Salas of PetroGazz displayed her scoring prowess on Wednesday after dropping a career-best 37 points in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.
Salas punished BanKo with her offensive explosion as the Angels secured at least a playoff for a Final Four spot following a 25-23, 25-11, 22-25, 25-20, victory that kept PetroGazz unscathed in six outings.
The power-hitter came just four points shy of the league record of 41 markers registered by American Kia Bright for Perlas Spikers last year in Game 3 of the BanKo’s five-set Game 3 semis loss to PayMaya.
But that record posted by Bright might not hold for long.
“I’ll go for more. That’s for sure,” vowed Salas, who is currently on top of the scoring list with an average of 23.1 points per game.
Salas hammered 35 attacks and had two kill blocks while also chipping in 13 excellent receptions for the Angels for an all-around performance.
It was Salas’ best scoring production, breaking her 35 points in the Turkish League.
“I think it’s good for me, it’s super for me. Every time I work I want to [be] better,” said the Cuban national team member.
Salas said that she and setter Djanel Cheng, who tallied 25 excellent sets, made good chemistry together during the hard fought battle against the very game Perlas Spikers, who handed PetroGazz its first set loss after winning 17 straight frames in the import-laden conference.
“Every time I asked the setter, ‘I need the ball. Give me the ball.’ The setter has confidence in me,” said Salas.
While Salas made recorded the second-best scoring output in a single game, Bright was shackled to only one point as she saw limited minutes in two sets of action.
BanKo pulled out Bright for good after the second set.
