“I always love to play a team that’s gonna give us a challenge -- Petrogazz import Janisa Johnson
The unbeaten PetroGazz Angels are ready for anything defending champion Creamline will throw at them when the top title contenders square off in a rematch in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
PetroGazz puts its perfect 7-0 win-loss record on the line when the Angels try to complete an elimination sweep of the Cool Smashers at 4:00 p.m. in a battle that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
With the pair of American import Janisa Johnson and Cuban Wilma Salas at the helm, PetroGazz scored a huge upset over star-studded Creamline with a shocking 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 demolition to open the conference.
“Of course, they probably didn’t like that we beat them so they’re gonna come with more heat,” said Johnson, who is averaging 17.8 points per game. “We’re expecting that they’re gonna give us everything that they’re gonna give. We’re ready for it.”
Johnson scored 16 points against the Cool Smashers in their first meeting and the Angels reinforcement is looking forward to prove that their opening day win was no fluke as the Angels build momentum heading into the semifinals.
“I’m excited,” said Johnson. “I always love to play a team that’s gonna give us a challenge. I love playing in general. I know the team is really looking forward to playing them, we’re gonna give them a challenge.”
Helping Johnson is Salas, an explosive scorer who leads the tournament in points with 21.8 markers per game with an impressive accuracy of 51.72% attacking success rate.
But the Angels are not just relying on their imports with locals Cherry Nunag, Jeanette Panaga, Cai Baloaloa, Jonah Sabete, setter Djanel Cheng and libero Cienne Cruz always ready to step up for the cause.
