PacificTown Army debuted with a bang after shooting down BanKo, 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, behind the duo of Jem Gutierrez and Royse Tubino on Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Despite a third set meltdown, the Lady Troopers re-asserted their mastery over the Perlas Spikers, who fell victim to PacificTown Army in the Reinforced Conference battle for third.
Gutierrez scored 20 of her 22 points on kills while Tubino had 19 makers with 17 coming off attacks for PacificTown Army.
Jovelyn Gonzaga and Lutgarda Malaluan had eight markers each for the Lady Troopers. Gonzaga also contributed on floor defense with 12 excellent receptions for PacificTown Army, which handed BanKo a stinging loss following the Perlas Spikers’ conquest of Reinforced Conference champion PetroGazz last Sunday.
“Happy kasi first game [namin] considering na nanalo si BanKo sa PetroGazz. Momentum sila tapos first time kami na lalaro ng all-Filipino,” said Lady Troopers coach Kungfu Reyes. “Back to drawing board kami last time pero ngayon nandyan na. Gumagalaw na ulit ang mga tao namin.”
BanKo fell to a 1-1 card.
Nicole Tiamzon fired 21 points off 17 kills and four aces in a lost cause for the Perlas Spikers. Dzi Gervacio had 13 markers, 15 digs and 11 excellent receptions while Kathy Bersola had nine for BanKo.
