PetroGazz rebounded from an opening day loss with a mighty bounce back win over winless BaliPure, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, on Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jeanette Panaga and Paneng Mercado led the Reinforced Conference champions’ charge to barge in the win column after absorbing a four-set loss to BanKo last week.
The multi-awarded middle blocker Panaga got 16 points coming off 12 attacks, three kill blocks and an ace for the Angels, who outgunned the Water Defenders, 42-24. Mercado had nine markers while Jonah Sabete and Jovielyn Prado combined for 13 points for PetroGazz.
Libero Cienne Cruz had 19 digs and 10 excellent receptions for the Angels.
“Siguro mindset lang talaga na well, start na talaga, start na yung tournament. Last time talaga pagdating sa mindset off talaga, makikita mo na di totally naka-focus sa ginagawa last time kaya ganoon kadami nabigay na errors,” said Angels coach Arnold Laniog. “But this time nagi-error pero mga errors na for me is acceptable.”
PetroGazz committed 22 errors, eight miscues lesser than in its first outing.
“From last game kasi ang daming error na unacceptable lalo na yung mga simple talaga. Sana magtulu’y-tuloy,” added Laniog.
PetroGazz got a scare early in the third set after trailing, 6-8, before blasting a 14-3 scoring barrage to turn the tables around and blow the game wide open, 20-11.
The Water Defenders dropped their second straight match and 12th overall since a winless campaign in the import-laden conference.
Grazielle Bombita had 11 points off eight spikes, two kill blocks and an ace for BaliPure while Shirley Salamagos got seven markers.
