Grazielle Bombita played through leg cramps to lift BaliPure into the win column on Wednesday beating Philippine Air Force in a grueling 26-24, 16-25, 25-19, 17-25, 17-15, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Bicolana hitter endured pain since the third set as she poured 23 points to pace the Water Defenders, who arrested a two-game skid and ended a 12-game losing slump overall this season including a listless outing in the Reinforced Conference.
“Sobrang nakaka-relieve,” said BaliPure coach Rommel Abella. “’Yun ang napi-feel ko ngayon kasi gusting-gusto kong manalo para sa girls, sa players. Alam ko kung gaano kalaki ang sakripisyo nila at ipinapagod nila.”
Bombita had 22 kills including the crucial hit that put the Water Defenders at match point, 16-15, and added 15 digs for an all-around performance.
Menchie Tubiera added 17 markers with 14 coming off attacks while Satrianni Espiritu got 13 points for BaliPure, which played great net defense with 12 kill blocks including five from Shirley Salamagos.
The Water Defenders saved a match point off a cross court kill by Tubiera, 14-14. Abegail Nuvali put the Jet Spikers back on top, 15-14, before Vira Guillema scored on a drop shot to tie it again at 15.
Bombita hammered the match point advantage but went down in pain because of leg cramp. She shook it off and continued playing before Air Force yielded the match when Dell Palomata committed an attack error.
Jozza Cabalsa and Palomata scored 13 points each while Angel Antipuesto got 12 in a lost cause for the Jet Spikers, who fell to 0-3 slate.
