Defending champion Creamline’s firepower and exprience proved too much for newcomer ChocoMucho as the Cool Smashers beat sister-team Flying Titans, 25-12, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, on Saturday to remain unscathed in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the jam-packed FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Playing before a huge weekend crowd, Creamline flexed its muscles to turn ChocoMucho into its sixth straight conquest in as many outings to keep a tight grip of the top spot while handing the Flying Titans their second straight defeat.
Other than a third set collapse, the Cool Smashers dictated the tempo of the match with Alyssa Valdez and Jema Galanza leading the offense while Celine Domingo and Risa Sato took care of manning the net to frustrate ChocoMucho’s attackers.
Valdez dropped 25 points anchored on 21 attacks, two aces and two kill blocks while adding 12 digs and 11 excellent receptions for the unbeaten Cool Smashers. Galanza and Domingo scored 11 markers wach while Sato added seven for Creamline.
Valdez credited setter Jia Morado for the victory as the playmaker kept ChocoMucho's best defenders at the net in Maddie Madayag and Kat Tolentino guessing and exerting extra effort to keep up with her heady plays.
“The key on our win today is the distribution of Jia,” said Valdez. “Because their strength was blocking so she had to spread out the attackers para hindi nila mabasa kung san kami pupunta.”
The Flying Titans fell to a 2-3 slate and tasted another stinging defeat at the hands of a veteran-laden squad after losing to PacificTown Army in five sets two weeks ago and to BanKo last Wednesday.
Tolentino scored 20 points off 14 kills, five kill blocks and an ace while Madayag had 11 kills and two kill blocks for 13 markers for ChocoMucho. Arianna Angustia had eight points for the Flying Titans.
