Philippine Air Force finally got a taste of victory after adding more woes to listless Chef’s Classics, 26-24, 25-15, 25-22, on Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
After lingering at the bottom, the Lady Jet Spikers got a chance to spread their wings for a 1-5 win-loss record.
Dell Palomata led all scorers with 16 points anchored on 12 spikes, three kill blocks and an ace while Judy Ann Caballejo finished with 12 markers for Air Force, which unleashed 43 attack points.
“Sana magtuluy-tuloy na,” said a relieved Lady Jet Spikers coach Jasper Jimenez. “Siguro dahan-dahan na kaming nakaka-focus.”
Joy Cases had an all-around performance with 10 points, 14 digs and six excellent receptions for Air Force, which dug deep in its well of experience to stave off the Lady Red Spikers’ fight back in the third set.
Down, 19-20, in the third set, the Lady Jet Spikers scored four straight points capped by a Judy Anne Caballejo hit for a 23-20 lead. Chef’s Classics answered with back-to-back points but the Nieza Viray committed consecutive attack errors as the Lady Red Spikers surrendered the match.
Palomata shattered a 24-24 deadlock in the first frame before Caballejo scored on a tip to foil Chef’s Classics comeback attempt from 21-24 down.
The Lady Jet Spikers cruised in the second set.
Skipper Justine Tiu and Viray scored nine points each for the Lady Red Spikers, who absorbed their seventh loss in as many games.
