Philippine Air Force schooled young ChocoMucho on resiliency as the Lady Jet Spikers came back from a 1-2 match deficit to pull off a 26-24, 14-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7, escape Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Banking on their composure and veteran smarts, Air Force plucked its second straight win at the expense of the struggling Flying Titans and spoiled ChocoMucho top hitter Kat Tolentino’s 30-point outing.
Dell Palomata paced Air Force with 18 points off 14 attacks and four kill blocks, Angel Antipuesto had 16 while Jozza Cabalsa scored 11 including four in the fifth set in just three sets of action off the bench.
The Jet Spikers kept a tight hold of the momentum they built in the fourth set when they came back from a 12-19 deficit to force a decider and eventually win their second game in seven matches to tie their skidding victims.
Air Force took advantage of the already fading ChocoMucho to build a 10-4 lead in the fifth set after an attack error by Tolentino. Abegail Nuval then scored three of the Jet Spikers’ last five points including back-to-back aces that hammered the last nails to the Flying Titans’ coffin.
“Sabi ko sa kanila 1 to 15 lang ito, hindi tayo pwedeng parang diesel. Kung pwede tayong XCS o Blaze, kailangan ilayo natin kung maari. Di tayo pwedeng dumikit dito kasi ang kompiyansa nyan kailangan mabali natin. Kailangan bumalik sa atin ang kompiyansa,” said Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez.
Tolentino’s 26 kills, two aces and pair of kill blocks and 14 digs went down the drain as the Flying Titans crashed to their fourth straight loss.
Arianna Angustia had 13 markers while Maddie Madayag finished with 12 for ChocoMucho, who gave away 32 points off errors and allowed the Jet Spikers to land 12 aces including five in the deciding frame. Bang Pineda was converted to libero and tallied 41 digs and eight excellent receptions for the Flying Titans.
