BanKo reasserted its mastery over BaliPure with a 25-16, 25-12, 16-25, 25-20, win on Sunday to start the second round of the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on a high note at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Dragged into five sets in their first meeting, the Perlas Spikers avoided falling into another dangerous position to get back on the winning track as BanKo improved its record to 6-3.
After yielding the third set, the Perlas Spikers leaned on the shoulders of Nicole Tiamzon, who caught fire in midway in the fourth set to create enough separation on its way to completing an elimination round sweep of the Water Defenders.
“Thankful din na naka-bounce back kami after the five-set loss (sa Motolite) but ‘yun nga marami pa kaming kailangan iimprove especially on the third set. Dapat hindi talaga nagiging complacent kahit sinong team at sino pang kalaban mo,” said Tiamzon, who scored 22 points with 21 coming off attacks.
“Siguro ma-lessen na namin yung errors namin tsaka kung kaya namin simulan ng maayos kailangan rin namin tapusin ng maayos,” she added.
Dzi Gervacio scored 12 points while Sue Roces and Ella De Jesus had nine each for the Perlas Spikers.
BaliPure came back from a 16-22 deficit in the fourth set to close the gap 20-23 before Perlas Spikers veterans Roces and Gervacio took care of business to finish off the Water Defenders.
Grazielle Bombita had 14 points while Shirley Salamagos, Satrianni Espiritu and Menchie Tubiera scored 13 markers each but their efforts weren’t enough to save BaliPure from its fourth straight loss and sliding to 2-7 card at eighth spot.
