Paneng Mercado and Jonah Sabete connived on offense to lead PetroGazz to a walk in the park, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, victory over hapless Chef’s Classics on Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The duo scored 11 points each to fuel the Angels’ fifth straight win for a 6-2 win-loss record to end their first round campaign on a high note.
Jovelyn Prado added nine points and 14 digs for PetroGazz, who is coming off an international tournament campaign in Taiwan a few days back.
“May mga struggle noong umpisa, going to this game na ito medyo gumaganda na ang chemistry ng team. At the same time lumalalim na ‘yung relationship ng team inside and outside the court especially doon sa tournament namin sa Taiwan, one week malaking bagay na magkakasama,” said Angels coach Arnold Laniog, whose squad started its campaign with a 1-2 card.
PetroGazz overpowered the Lady Red Spikers with a 36-20 advantage in attacks, controlled the net with 10 kill blocks and landed six aces.
Chef’s Classics suffered its 11th setback in as many games and second in back-to-back weekend schedule after bowing down to ChocoMucho in a sorry five-set loss on Saturday in Malolos, Bulacan.
Jinggay Bangad finished with seven points while Bien Juanillo and Nieza Viray combined for only nine points for the Lady Red Spikers.
