ChocoMucho fielded the trio of Kat Tolentino, Maddie Madayag and Bea De Leon for the first time as the Flying Titans cruised past BaliPure, 25-16, 25-12, 25-16, on Wednesday for back-to-back wins in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Using the momentum of their morale-boosting five-set win over the Chef’s Classics that arrested a five-game skid last Saturday, ChocoMucho completed an elimination round sweep of the also-ran Water Defenders for a 4-6 win-loss slate.
League-leading scorer Tolentino provided the offensive spark, while the presence of De Leon and Madayag, who just came back from a tour of duty with the national team in the ASEAN Grand Prix in Thailand recently, gave the Flying Titans the added defensive boost at the net.
Tolentino, who averaged 33 points per game ChocoMucho’s last three games, finished with 14 points with 13 coming off kills and added 10 digs, while Madayag posted 11 markers including 10 spikes while De Leon, who is just settling in after making her debut last Saturday, chipped in with two points including the match-clinching dink in two sets of action as a reliever. Shannen Palec had nine markers for the Flying Titans
“This team is very young and they have to have mature thinking inside the court. We have to continue learning every match,” said ChocoMucho coach Oliver Almadro. “Sabi ko nga ‘every practice, every match we have to continue learning. We have to accept na hindi pa tayo katibay but we’re going there basta continue learning and aim at what is above always.’”
BaliPure absorbed its seventh defeat in a row and bowed out of contention with a 2-10 slate.
Menchie Tubiera was the only Water Defender in double figures with 11, points while Grazielle Bombita had eight. BaliPure gave away 26 free points to the Flying Titans off errors and were outgunned, 20-41.
