Adamson University ignited a crucial scoring barrage in the fourth set to deny College of St. Benilde a chance to force a third straight five-setter duel as the Lady Falcons clinched the last Finals seat, 25-18, 14-25, 25-17, 25-15, Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Collegiate Conference at FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
League-leading scorer Trisha Genesis fired 20 points to anchor Adamson’s offense and led the Lady Falcons to a best-of-three championship showdown with University of Sto. Tomas.
Game 1 of the Finals is on Wednesday.
Genesis punched in 13 attacks including the championship seat-clinching crosscourt hit and added six aces and a kill block and posted 14 excellent receptions for Adamson, which closed the semifinals series in just four sets after the two protagonists split the first two games in five-set deciders.
Rookie Lucille Almonte got 15 points and 13 digs while Ceasa Pinar and Lorene Toring chipped in with 13 and 12 markers, respectively for the Lady Falcons. Rookie setter Louie Romero tallied 23 excellent sets to help Adamson hit 51 attack points.
Adamson, which booked its first Finals seat after two Final Four finishes in the first two editions of the league, waxed hot in the third frame but encountered early troubles in the fourth as the Lady Blazers took a 12-10 lead. The Lady Falcons were quick to regroup and mounted a 9-0 counterattack to take the lead and held it for good as CSB crumbled.
The Lady Blazers will face Ateneo de Manila University, which bowed down in five sets to the Tigresses in their semis series decider, in the best-of-three battle for third.
Klarisa Abriam and Gayle Pascual had 10 points each for CSB.
