BanKo cashed in on its experience and veteran smarts to outplay ChocoMucho, 25-20, 25-19, 27-25, Wednesday to bolster its semifinals bid in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Veterans Nicole Tiamzon, Kathy Bersola, Sue Roces and Dzi Gervacio finished in double figures as they steered the Perlas Spikers to its ninth win in 14 games.
Down, 17-21, in the third set, BanKo banked on its grizzled veterans to mount a comeback before completing its third straight win.
“Siguro we’ve been through a lot of match points din, I mean di ko sinasabing di sila ganun, pero yung team siguro mental game na lang talaga namin na kung kapit, kapit talaga,” said Tiamzon, who scored all of her 11 points off attacks including the last two points of the match. “Saka iba yung feeling na when you look at your teammates na lalaban talaga sila kahit four points away pa or whatever.”
Bersola led the Perlas Spikers with 13 points including five kill blocks while Gervacio and Roces also added 11 markers for the cause.
BanKo erased a four-point deficit with a 6-1 blast to take a 23-22 lead. The Perlas Spikers moved at match point after a Carla Sandoval attack error but Kat Tolentino saved a point for ChocoMucho. T
he Flying Titans saved another match point before Tiamzon’s late heroics won it for BanKo.
Tolentino was the only ChocoMucho player in double figures with 19 points – all of attacks – while Maddie Madayag had six points as the Flying Titans slid on the brink of missing the semifinals cut with a 6-8 mark.
