PetroGazz arrested a two-game slide and completed the semifinals cast after eliminating Philippine Air Force, 25-20, 25-15, 25-14, Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Angels improved to 10-4 win-loss record and joined unbeaten Creamline (14-0) and BanKo (10-5) in the semifinals while also giving Motolite (9-5) the last Final Four ticket.
Jonah Sabete led all scorers with 15 points – all from attacks – and added 10 digs while Jovielyn Prado finished with 11 markers and eight excellent receptions for the reigning Reinforced Conference champions.
Head coach Arnold Laniog was particularly happy with the way his wards played as he had a chance to field his bench in the quick 72-minute conquest of the Lady Jet Spikers.
“Siyempre happy, masarap sa pakiramdam especially na-cut ulit namin yung losing streak namin,” Laniog said. “With this win nakabalik na ulit kami sa track namin.”
The Angels can lock the no. 2 spot and avoid landing at the fourth seed against the Cool Smashers in the best-of-three semis if they sweep their last two elims assignments against also-ran BaliPure and ChocoMucho.
“Hopefully, magtuluy-tuloy but we still have two games sa elimination round and ‘yung ranking actually yung sa amin di pa kami safe kung [no.] 2 ba kami or 3. Medyo magulo pa kasi ang BanKo at Motolite may remaining games din.”
Air Force suffered its eighth loss in 14 games tied with PacificTown Army, which was booted out earlier by Creamline in straight sets.
Jozza Cabalsa had eight points while May Anne Pantino and Judy Ann Caballejo scored six each for the Lady Jet Spikers.
