PacificTown Army star Jovelyn Gonzaga was grateful for the overflowing support and financial help from the local volleyball community for her nephew Calix Vander or CV who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Gonzaga was particularly thankful to close friends Carmela Tunay and Rachel Anne Daquis for organizing a jersey auction as a fund-raising campaign and to all volleyball players and athletes who participated.
“Sobrang thankful ako sa auction lalo na kay Carmela Tunay and Rachel Anne Daquis na sobrang supportive from the start until natapos, actually hanggang ngayon,” said Gonzaga.
Volleyball stars Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, John Vic De Guzman, college basketball standout Ricci Rivero and PBA stars Alex Cabagnot and June Mar Fajardo were among those who donated their jerseys for the auction.
“And meron pang iba na ayaw magpangalan. So sobrang nakakataba sa puso na 'yung love nila kay CV is ramdam na ramdam namin,” Gonzaga added.
Tunay initiated the fund-raising event early this month and generated enough funds to shoulder her three-year old nephew’s chemotherapy.
Gonzaga said that CV just finished his first cycle of chemo session.
“Si CV ngayon, kakatapos lang ng first cycle niya last week, so nagsisimula ng maglagas 'yung buhok niya so kinalbo na siya ng Tatay (Jade) niya,” she said. “Magsa-start na 'yung cycle niya next week Tuesday, second cycle niya na.”
Gonzaga added that CV is a fighter and has a very positive disposition.
“So so far, so good kasi strong naman si CV.
Gonzaga was also thankful for those who donated directly to her brother’s account.
