BanKo took advantage of Motolite’s sluggish game to carve out a dominating 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 victory and move closer to a bronze medal finish in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Veterans Nicole Tiamzon, Kathy Bersola, Dzi Gervacio and Sue Roces did most of the damage as the Perlas Spikers drew first blood in the best-of-three battle for third.
Fueled by its desire to close the season on a high note after missing the podium in the Reinforced Conference, BanKo leaned on its battle-tested hitters to silence Motolite.
“Prinomise namin sa sarili namin sa last game na hindi pa tapos ang season. We promised ourselves that we’ll finish on a good note. Naipakita naman namin today and siguro nakatulong din ang mahabang pahinga kasi madami-dami sa amin ang injured,” said Gervacio, whose squad is coming off a painful semifinals loss to PetroGazz.
Tiamzon scored 13 points with 11 coming off kills and added eight excellent receptions while Roces and Gervacio had 11 markers each for the Perlas Spikers, who lost Ella de Jesus in the second set after hurting her right foot. Bersola took care of the net defense, accounting for four of BanKo’s eight kill blocks to finish with 10.
Roma Joy Doromal stepped up in the absence of De Jesus, scoring six points in two sets of action.
The Perlas Spikers can close the series on Saturday.
Tots Carlos and Myla Pablo tried to keep Motolite in the game, but their efforts came into naught.
Pablo closed the gap, 17-20, in the third but BanKo finished the game off by igniting a 5-1 barrage capped by Gervacio’s hit.
Carlos and Pablo had 14 points each while Isa Molde was limited to only seven markers and 13 digs for Motolite.
