Creamline goes for the title series, conference sweep.
One more win and defending champion Creamline will write its name in the Premier Volleyball League history as the first team to complete a rare tournament sweep.
That’s why the Cool Smashers are extra motivated to finish off PetroGazz and raise the PVL Season 3 Open Conference championship trophy on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 6:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
Creamline is just a win away from sweeping the 20-game season-ending conference and exacting revenge on the Angels, who denied the Cool Smashers a back-to-back crown in the Reinforced Conference.
“One thing we want as a team is ayaw naming maulit yung hirap na pinagdaanan namin nu’ng Reinforced Conference so we have to stay focused and composed towards our other game,” said Creamline star Alyssa Valdez.
Aside from Valdez, the Cool Smashers are also relying on top Most Valuable Player contender Jema Galanza, Michele Gumabao, Celine Domingo, Risa Sato, playmaker Jia Morado and libero Kyla Atienza.
Pitted against a squad with a stacked all-Filipino lineup, PetroGazz head coach Arnold Laniog challenges his squad to work as a team to stand a chance against the onslaught of the Cool Smashers.
“Sabi ko nga sa players, 'sino ba dito kaya pumuntos ng bente? Wala.' So ibig sabihin, lahat tayo kailangan mag step up. Everyone talaga needs to step up,” he said.
Laniog is banking on wingers Jonah Sabete and Jovielyn Prado, middles Jeanette Panaga and Cherry Nunag, Cai Baloaloa and Paneng Mercado to force a rubber match.
Game 3, if needed, is on Wednesday.
